TRAPPO's Christmas Mixtape!
It's Christmastime, and that means we've been hard at work on your very special present this year, dear listeners! You won't be finding this particular gift under your tree, and you don't even need to worry about unwrapping it! No, this gift is a very special two-part episode of TRAPPO., the show that talks about stuff on purpose! And this time, we're talking about Christmas... on purpose. More specifically, we're talking about Christmas music, that stuff you just can't seem to get away from this time of year. So much holiday-themed music is just the absolute worst, lowest common denominator pablum that assaults your ears and your mind with banal lyrics and uninspired, repetitive melodies, and it's everywhere, almost impossible to avoid every December. We want to improve your mood by introducing you to a bunch of festive songs that don't suck for a change. And that is why we've decided to curate the ultimate Christmas mixtape.
That's right, friends, the time has finally come. Both hosts have come to the virtual table with ten songs they believe are worthy of inclusion in the legendary TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on via the newly minted XMAS MIXTAPE, a tightly curated playlist of the absolute best Christmas-themed songs the world has to offer. This is not a matter of simple opinion, friends, but an objective truth. The songs that make up this mixtape are the cream of the Christmas crop and we will accept nothing less, so buckle up and get ready for one bumpy sleigh ride with part one of our two-part holiday spectacular. You can listen below, or you can find us on Anchor, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher and Spotify, so choose your own adventure and make with the holiday cheer.
Feel free to join the conversation and tell us about your favorite holiday tunes by leaving a comment below, or send us an email if you're feeling a little more verbose and share your most cherished Christmas memories. We may very well address your missives on a future episode. You can also find us on Twitter and Instagram if you're an obsessive weirdo looking for the complete TRAPPO. experience. Thanks for listening and we'll see you back here next Friday, Christmas Eve, for the conclusion of our festive frivolity!
I'm not the biggest Christmas music fan, but most of your picks are pretty solid, at least so far. I don't know what [part 2 will bring, but you seem to be building a pretty good playlist. But I would have to take out Wonderful Christmastime because after hearing it so many times it's like hearing somebody chew aluminum foil right next to my ear, but that's just my opinion. If you're asking for recommendations, I would suggest really anything Christmas sung by Dolly Parton. I know she's put out at least one or two Christmas albums, and they're pretty entertaining. I think Norah Jones just released a Christmas album. I haven't heard it yet but I like her music a lot anyway, so I don't see how it could be bad. I liked the podcast, but I'm not sure I needed to hear about you getting "boners" when you were a young child. TMI. But I will be back to listen to the part 2 whenever it drops. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou actually replied to my comment! For your information, my family used to take summer vacations up at Big Bear Lake when I was growing up, and that's why I use the nickname. No, it's not a gay fetish thing, and I don't know why you would automatically think that was the reason for my handle. That stuff's really nobody's business and I wouldn't advertise something like that, anyway. It's okay, though. I won't hold it against you.
ReplyDeleteI understand what it's like to not have a bunch of money to get the best possible quality equipment, but if you want to make a real podcast then yo u have to try a little harder, I think. You're never going to get big listener numbers if your show sounds the way it currently does. People just aren't going to want to listen to an hour of okay-sounding voices buried by a bunch of chirping crickets and clicks and scratches and stuff. And if you don't have the money to get good equipment, I doubt you have the money to advertise, either. So nobody's even going to hear about your podcast and your audience still won't grwo. If you want to make it in this business you have to commit to it, you have to be ready to drop some time and money into making your show sound professional so that people will want to listen to it without your show feeling like some kind of endurance test. With a show that sounds as rough as this, especially with such a bizarre and nothing name like Trappo, I'm surprused anybody listens to it at all. And you wanna moan about nobody supporting a potential Patreon, but nobody has an incentive to support your show as it is now. Who wants to put down their own hard earned money to support a show that sounds like crap right now and that might never improve? You have to meet your audience halfway. Tough love, man.
As for Christmas music, I'm not really a big fan for the most part, but I really like Lindsey Stirling's "Warmer In The Winter". It's pretty recent, and it's mostly instrumental, but she's an incredibly talented violinist, and the music is top notch. I think it's pretty good for setting the mood for the holiday season.
