SPOTLIGHT: All Mirrors (& Whole New Mess) by Angel Olsen
We're back with a brand-new episode of the show that talks about stuff on purpose! This week, we're concluding our two-part listener poll results discussion with a closer look at 2019's All Mirrors by Angel Olsen, as well as 2020's companion release Whole New Mess. We had a lot of fun talking about these two records, and we think you'll have a good time learning a little more about them. Listen below, or find us on Apple, Google, RadioPublic, Pocket Casts, Spotify and Anchor, so choose your own adventure and join us as we wish we could believe all that's been promised us...
Join the conversation! Tell us what you think of Angel Olsen's All Mirrors, and suggest topics for future episodes! It's so easy, dear listeners. All you have to do is leave a comment below. Seriously. That's it. You don't even have to leave a name or anything. Just pour your heart out below this post, and we'll address your feedback in a future episode of the show. We really do that. It's called TRAPPO's Mail Bag, and we've got the tenth Mail Bag episode dropping next week, so stay tuned for that.
You can also send us an email if you feel the constraints of a simple comment can't contain your immense verbosity, but nobody ever does anymore, and it makes us very sad. Have you ever seen a deranged clown cry? It's a horrifying sight. So maybe you could send an email our way? Our address is trapposhow@gmail.com, by the way, in case you were curious. It looks official and everything, doesn't it? That's because it is. We're not going to sell your information or anything. We would never do that. We just want you to tell us what's on your mind, that's all. Share some family recipes, tell us all about your favorite movies, maybe tell us where the bodies are buried. We can be very discrete.
And don't forget to follow us on Instagram for the complete TRAPPO experience, although I wouldn't blame you if you didn't since the latest updates have turned the once-simple interface into a never-ending hellscape of forced ads and "suggested posts" that clutter your feed to the point that you don't even feel like opening the damned app anymore, and who could blame you?
We're also on Twitter, but nobody follows us there, so don't worry about it.
That's all for today, so until next time, dear listeners... Thanks for listening!
Angel Olsen took a big shit on some cool music with Whole New mess. Dumpy noise like that just gives me a headache. Try recording your acoustic demos in a fucking studio for a change.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know anything about Whole New Mess. I just thought it was cool, low tech music. That’s really cool that it was recorded in an old church. I can’t believe all those echoes are real. It sounds too good to be true. I think it’s pretty easy to love that record over All Mirrors if I’m being honest with myself. That spare quality to the music is like a raw nerve. It’s so damn cool. I feel like All Mirrors is good, but a bit over-produced. Whole New Mess feels pure.
ReplyDeleteSince you guys clearly seem to like The Stooges so much, when are you going to talk about them on your podcast? I really like Funhouse a lot.
Who said they liked the direct to video sequel to “Mirrors” more than the original? What’s wrong with you? The first movie isn’t a masterpiece by any means, but it’s well made, well acted, and there’s clearly a decent budget behind the whole thing. That sequel was cheap crap just being churned out to fill a slot on a video store shelf by a major studio. How can I trust your opinions on anything if you’re spouting lies like this at the beginning of this podcast? You can’t lead people astray with inappropriate comments like that.
ReplyDeleteAngel Olson is number one! Saw Chicago 2017 and all the best! All Mirrors no broken mirrors all good luck! Thanks to TRAPPO for a whole new mess!
ReplyDeleteThis is some dreamy music. I would agree that Angel Olsen should perform the acoustic version of Chance at the Bang Bang Bar. It’s perfect Twin Peaks tunes, but unfortunately it was released at least three years too late for David Lynch to put it in the show, otherwise I think it might have had a good shot.
ReplyDeleteWould you dudes ever consider doing some Danzig music on the show? I know you’ve reviewed Verotika before, but I’d like to hear your perspective on some of his records.
I’d love to hear some love for some old school psychedelia with the legendary Captain Beyond. Nobody ever talks about this supergroup anymore, and we can’t have that. TRAPPO, share the good word of Captain Beyond with the unwashed masses!
ReplyDeleteEverybody loves All Mirrors. Angel Olsen is amazing. We get it. If it wasn’t in your cannon, I would put it in my own cannon and blast that shit off into the perverted depths of space for lustful aliens to cry over as they do inappropriate things to their bathing suit areas. Whole New Mess is a bit better in my own humble opinion, because it sounds like music broadcast from a forgotten dream and that’s more of what I’m into, I guess, but it’s all good.
ReplyDeleteI know it’s hardly obscure, but have you Trappers ever considered the music of Janelle Monáe for a spirited discussion? It’s pretty much all worthwhile stuff, mixing all sorts of genres together into a heady sci-fi stew that is absolutely delicious. Monáe is a tremendous talent who knows how to marry the music with a message in an oh-so appealing manner. Dirty Computer might be the obvious choice for an episode because it’s probably her most accomplished, but it’s all good. Naw, fuck that. It’s all great.
Or maybe you could talk about Kelis. She’s just weird enough to make some really compelling tunes. Plus, she’s a professional chef. I’m sure the Traps could do something with that. Or not. Whatever. You do what you want. Don’t mind me, your loyal listener. Your dear, dear listener who just wants you to listen to some good music then talk about it on your show that he recommends to all his friends.
