TRAPPO's Mail Bag #10!

Dear listeners, we've finally arrived at this truly momentous occasion! It's the tenth installment of the show that talks about you on purpose, TRAPPO's Mail Bag! And we're celebrating this feat by answering listener feedback! I know that sounds just like any other episode of TRAPPO's Mail Bag, but there's a major difference here. And that difference is... this is the tenth time we've done it. Technically this is the eleventh time if you count our lost episode, so when you really think about it, there's nothing special about this episode at all. It's just more of the same, I guess. But that's just peaches and cream, because we love reading your comments and taking your suggestions and sparking an interesting conversation!

Speaking of interesting conversation, this stupendous tenth Mail Bag covers a diverse number of topics, including but not limited to: 1980s pop icon Toni Basil, the music of the legendary Tori Amos, everybody's favorite goth uncle, Glenn Danzig, Halsey's If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, the incendiary Celestial Blues by King Woman, the eternal glory of Frank Henenlotter's Frankenhooker, and much, much more! It's a whole lot of conversation jammed into 27 compact minutes! Give it a listen below, or find us on Apple, Google, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Spotify or Anchor, so choose your own adventure and let's get this show on the road...

  1. When’s Frankenhooker happening? Soon, I hope. Halloween is coming, after all.

  3. Doing Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos would be cool for the 30th anniversary. My god, I feel old. I remember buying that CD brand new at Sam Goody when I was an inquisitive teenager. How the hell is Little Earthquakes 30 years old?! This means I’m old. I don’t want to be old. I don’t feel old. But I’m closer to 50 than 30. I still remember high school so vividly. How could it have been so long ago? I remember bribing a neighbor to buy me and my friends beer so we could get drunk together behind a movie theater instead of going to senior prom. I bonded with Suzy over how much we both loved Fright Night. Suzy was so cool. She had a purple Mohawk and was an emancipated minor. I used to dream of spending the rest of my life with Suzy. She’s a stay at home mom now. Her husband is a hedge fund manager. They’re both Trump supporting Qanon cultists. What happened? Jesus, I’m depressed.

Anyway, maybe you guys could do a bigger Tori Amos retrospective kind of thing? Little Earthquakes alone would be great, and I’m sure I’d love it, but why not dream bigger?

I mean I’ll be dead soon, anyway. I can feel my bones slowly turning to dust as I type. I may as well dream big, since reality sucks so much.

At least I still have TRAPPO.

  4. Remember “Lifeforce”? That weird space vampire from the 1980’s? It’s the one where the main vampire is naked through the whole movie. Everybody remembers the naked space vampire lady, but I think the movie is actually pretty good. It’s trippy and weird and maybe a little confusing, but there’s a lot to like there. You guys should talk about “Lifeforce”!

  5. You can’t go wrong by covering Devo, that bunch of weird nerds who made some fantastic music, honestly some of the best stuff to come out of the American new wave movement if you ask me, and nobody did. Are We Not Men? is a stone cold classic. Are we not trappers? We are TRAPPO!

  6. Does anybody talk about Poppy anymore? She was this big splash on YouTube for a little while, but I never understood why. The videos were just her talking to a mannequin for thirty seconds or saying her own name a hundred times. Millions of views. I don’t really care about any of that, but her music is interesting. She does this kind of hyper metal, pseudo-industrial stuff that’s actually pretty appealing, at least to me. Do people know Poppy’s music? It’s kind of weird to think of somebody as a has-been before their 30th birthday.
