Happy Spring-O-Ween! (2023's Dark Harvest Review!)

(The polls are now closed. Since the important poll [does Dark Harvest belong in the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on?] ended in a tie, I'm just going to break the tie right here and say it's in the Can(n)on. I can do that. So Congratulations, Dark Harvest! You're in the Can(n)on! As for the other poll [is the corn in Dark Harvest too sexy?], the final response landed pretty definitively on "DELETE THIS POLL" so that's what I've done. We've essentially solved nothing here, and it's all your fault, dear listener. Thanks for voting, I guess. Whatever. -D)

Welcome back, dear listener, and Happy Spring-O-Ween! For those of you who are not familiar, Spring-O-Ween, also known as "Halfway To Halloween", is a fun excuse for people like us, who keep the unholy flame of All Hallows Eve burning within our blackened hearts all year round, to just celebrate a second, smaller Halloween during springtime. That's all there is to it, really. Some folks throw costume parties. Some decorate their houses with their Halloween finery. Some lucky kids in cooler communities actually get to go trick-or-treating again around this time. That's pretty cool. We here at TRAPPO have chosen to celebrate this holiday, which is really just a modern means to observe the ancient festival of Beltane for dummies who don't know any better, by watching a recent Halloween-themed release, 2023's Dark Harvest, a long-in-development adaptation of the 2006 novella written by professional phantom Norman Partridge.

Is the movie any good? Is it a solid adaptation of the source material? Is Norman Partridge the J.D. Salinger of Moraga, California? Find out the answers to all of these questions and many more in the latest episode of the show that talks about Halloween on purpose! You can listen below, or find us on Apple, RadioPublic, Pocket Casts (or maybe Podchaser?), Spotify, Spotify Numero Two-o, and Amazon, so choose your own adventure and stay up late eating a bunch of candy and watching scary movies until you puke!

Now that all the formalities are out of the way, it's time for you to join the conversation. Leave a comment below telling us what you think of the movie Dark Harvest, the novella Dark Harvest, sexy corn, pumpkin monsters, racial segregation, the music of Glenn Danzig, this whole Spring-O-Ween thing, or whatever else. If you have any recommendations for future episode topics, tell us all about that too. We'd sure appreciate it. If you have a lot to share and don't think your mountain of prose can be contained by a blog comment, feel free to send us an email. Send those thoughts to trapposhow@gmail.com and we'll probably get back to you before too long.

We're also all over social media, if that's a thing you're into. Follow the TRAPS on Instagram and Threads. 'Gram with us, kids! Threads for days! We'll have a great time sharing memes and screwing around until we all die! So that's cool.

Happy Spring-O-Ween, everybody! Thanks for listening!

  1. I don’t know what springoween is but I have heard of Dark Harvest. I rented it on Amazon back in October and thought it was okay. Didn’t know there was a book. Maybe I’ll check it out sometime.

  2. Halfway to Halloween is what I’ve heard of. I don’t think anybody goes trick or treating in April. But costume parties should be a year round thing.

  3. Why does this movie like The Misfits so much? It’s a weird thing.
