In Review: The Outwaters (2022)

The show that talks about stuff on purpose is back, dear listener! This week, we're discussing 2022's ambitious found footage marvel The Outwaters, the brainchild of movie-making multi-hyphenate Robbie Banfitch! If you'd like to check out the movie for yourself, it's available to stream on Screambox and Tubi, which is free, so you really have no excuse not to watch The Outwaters, unless you're allergic to cinema. Are you allergic to cinema, dear listener? No? Then watch The Outwaters at your earliest convenience. Then check out the latest episode of TRAPPO, since we spoil the absolute hell out of this movie, almost immediately. If you don't care about spoilers, then nobody's stopping you from listening to the episode first. It's a little unorthodox, but we don't judge. The episode is available below, or you can find us in Apple, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Spotify, Spotify 2: The Sequel To Spotify, and Amazon, so choose your own adventure and join us as we lose our minds (and maybe more) in the high desert...

Join the conversation! Tell us what you think of The Outwaters, or anything else, really. We're always looking for recommendations, so if you have anything you'd like to share, feel free to do so in a comment below. We'd love to hear from you. And if you want to share your thoughts in an email, which I'm told is a thing some people like to do, you can direct those emails to trapposhow@gmail.com, and we'll probably reply to that email in a relatively timely manner. We're also on Instagram and Threads, so if you're into social media, you can always check us out there. Follow TRAPPO on social media and we might follow you back. That's almost as good as being followed by an actual celebrity! But if you would like to follow an actual celebrity, Robbie Banfitch is also on Instagram. You should absolutely follow him.

Thanks for listening!

  1. I guess some people just have no taste in movies.

  2. I didn't think I wanted to watch The Outwaters, so I just went ahead and listened to the episode. After having the whole plot spoiled, I decided that I needed to watch The Outwaters. I signed up for a free trial of Scream Box and watched the movie and the two short films in one sitting. This movie is a truly harrowing journey into a transcendent kind of inferno. The episode technically "spoiled" what passes for a story in The Outwaters, but it didn't prepare me for the mind-bending madness captured by Robbie Banfitch. I think I'm in love with this movie. It scared the hell out of me.

  3. So I watched The Outwaters. It’s got some great creepy moments, but I think overall it just lost me. I tried, but it’s a little too long and I’m not sure if the ending actually makes any sense. You guys tried to provide explanations, but they feel a bit flimsy. Fine listening, though. I’m glad you two enjoyed it more than me, even if I think you’re crazy for putting it in the canon.

  5. I have a real question. Is this podcast trying to be funny? Is it trying to be informative? Is it trying to be boring? Because it’s definitely succeeding on that last front, for sure. Just keep yapping about stuff like you know what you’re talking about, even though you really don’t, and wonder why you have no audience.
