Music Double Feature: Victory Over The Sun & Das Koolies!
This week on the show that talks about stuff on purpose, we're talking about some stuff on purpose. Can you believe that? I'm throwing curve balls at you left and right, dear listener! It's a double feature this time around! A music double feature, to be more precise. A Good, Great or Garbage double feature to be even more precise. That's how precise we're getting. This time around, we're taking a closer look at a couple recent-ish albums on our latest episode: Avant-garde metal artist Victory Over The Sun's Dance You Monster To My Soft Song! and DK.01 from electro-pop outfit Das Koolies, a.k.a. most of the veteran alternative electro-pop band Super Furry Animals. Do either of these records make the cut and join the elite in the hallowed halls of the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on? You have to listen and find out, kids.
That's the whole point of making a podcast. If I just told you everything right here then there'd be no point in recording, editing and releasing this podcast, and that would mean that all I'm doing here is wasting my precious, precious time. So give my life meaning and listen to our latest episode, will you? You can find it below, or follow TRAPPO on Apple, Google, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Spotify, Other Spotify (the one for podcasters), and Amazon, so choose your own adventure and join us as we talk about old futurist operas and archaic Russian poetry instead of the music we're supposed to be discussing!
Join the conversation! It's a whole thing! Just take a look below at that comment section. You see that? It's waiting for you, dear listener. Leave us a comment. Leave us numerous comments. Tell us what you think of this latest episode. Share your thoughts on Russian poetry. Give us some topics for future episodes of the show. What's your favorite seltzer water brand? Whatever's on your mind. Just type some words for us to read below, and we'll appreciate you for making the effort. You could also send us an email if you were so inclined. Our address is trapposhow@gmail.com, so use it. Send us some emails. Write us big blocks of text and send them to us via electronic mail. We can't wait to hear from you. We probably won't, but hope springs eternal.
We're also all over that social media thing, not that anybody cares. I'm not sure exactly why, but TRAPPO just can't seem to crack that social media nut. Maybe we're just not terribly interesting. That's probably it. But we're still out there, another fly struggling in the terrifying social media web, waiting for the sweet release of death. Would you like to join us in that special brand of hell? Then follow us on BlueSky, Instagram and Threads for the complete TRAPPO experience, whatever that means. Will it enrich your life? Absolutely not. Will you be entertained? I highly doubt it. But at least we'll be miserable together.
That's it for now. Next week it's Black Friday, which means nothing. So expect nothing.
Thanks for not listening!
I was listening to this episode on my laptop at home and my girlfriend walked by and randomly heard a little goblin voice say “I am the gatekeeper of hell” and she just shouted:
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck are you listening to??
Then walked out of the room because I was laughing too hard to answer.
I think she might actually leave me this time. Thanks , TRAPPO.

ReplyDeleteNo room for your transphobic bullshit here.
DeleteOkay, TRAPPO. A couple points. First: Let's get this straight. You don't mine pewter. It's an alloy, meaning it's not a naturally-occurring metal. There are no pewter mines in this world. People expect better from TRAPPO. Second: And was that one audio clip with the "eight track" stuff really old? Why would you have a recording of you TRAPS from years back listening to an old eight track? That's odd.
ReplyDeleteThird: The MUSE comparison with "Pain down the drain" was pretty funny. Don't think I didn't notice you sped up the song "Uprising". It did sound very similar, though. Now I hate Das Koolies because they clearly ripped off MUSE. They're the worst band that's ever existed and I want them all to die of syphilis.
Thanks for another opportunity to fill the horrid silences in my miserable life with the latest episode of your show, TRAPS.
Dance You Monster To My Soft Song! is a fucking banger factory! So I listened to your episode and checked out the music, since the clips and your discussion peaked my interest. And holy shit, you dudes. I am in love with this black metal vibe. I have to admit I was a little thrown off by the Russian poetry stuff, but in retrospect I think it's a little interesting. Interesting enough to check out some ZAUM poetry history on the internet. And now I'm even more interested. Russian futurism is cool, actually. Who knew? So thanks for sharing that. And I also listened to your episode on Liturgy (another band I didn't know existed before TRAPPO) after this one, and all the religion and William Blake talk got me investigating a whole bunch of things. I'm in the process of watching all of Liturgy's YouTube theology videos, and it's fucking DENSE. But it's also very fascinating. So am I saying I might end up joining a black metal cult because I listened to TRAPPO? Maybe. Who knows where things will lead?
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for making a podcast so weird that most people will never bother listening to it because the discussion will just make them bored and mad, since I am neither bored nor mad after listening. Well, not "mad" as in upset. I might be mad. That's entirely possible.
Victory Over The Sun is so good! Thanks for introducing me to this phenomenal artist! Black Heralds is an amazing closer. And I was perversely fascinated by the Russian poetry discussion.
