TRAPPO's Spooky Music Showcase!

(Happy Halloween, trick or treaters! The poll is now closed, and in an All Hallows miracle, all three albums have been deemed scary enough to be inducted into the TRAPPO Essentials Can(n)on! Congratulations to all of our spooky albums! -D)

We are hip-deep in the spooky season, dear listener! Can you feel it? Can you feel that special feeling radiating from your rotten old bones, that wonderfully macabre vibe settling over you like a warm and suffocating blanket? It feels good, doesn't it? Just this morning I was out and about, enjoying the change in seasons that was evident everywhere I went. The falling leaves swirling in the breeze, that autumnal chill in the air... the horror that shocked me to my core when I discovered the All Hallows decor at my local supermarket had already been replaced by garish Christmas garbage.

Now that's really scary, kids.

So in our continuing quest to keep the warming fires of Halloween burning in this waning of the season, we're introducing you to a quartet of spooky albums chock full of delightfully chilling musical gems that you can add to your trendy holiday party mixtapes or playlists or whatever it is you kids call them these days. The four albums we've chosen to highlight this year are 2023's Body Horror from Swedish hauntwave artist aux animaux, 2018's In The Frightful Gaze Of The Pumpkin Witch from the enigmatic dark ambient trio Pumpkin Witch, 2024's A Rose In The Garden Of Winter from the UK's synthwave soundscape master Dream Division, and 1982's Homotopy To Marie from legendary avant-garde industrial artist Nurse With Wound. Check out the episode below, or find TRAPPO on Apple, Pocket Casts, RadioPublic, Spotify, Spooky Spotify, and Amazon, so choose your own adventure and let us introduce you to some frightening tunes that will chill you to your bones!

Would you like to listen to these delightful albums for yourself, dear listener? Feel free! CLICK HERE to listen to Body Horror (and the rest of aux animaux's catalogue) on Bandcamp or listen to the convenient embed below!

Oh look! HERE'S THE LINK to the Bandcamp page for In The Frightful Gaze Of The Pumpkin Witch, and right below this text is a lovely embed!

Wow! I think THIS IS THE LINK to the Dream Division Bandcamp page! And what's that below this little block of text? Why I think that's yet another convenient embed!

This is really just too much. I can't believe how generous I'm being in this blog post. CLICK HERE to visit Nurse With Wound on Bandcamp, where you can listen to and/or buy the deluxe edition of Homotopy To Marie at your leisure, or you can check out the final embed below to sample this truly haunting masterpiece of an album! I'm sure you can also find all of this music on Spotify or YouTube Music, but I don't particularly care about any of that, since those services don't really pay the artists very well, and directly supporting your favorite artists through Bandcamp puts money directly in their pockets, so it's a better choice for everybody. I know it's more convenient to just subscribe to a music service and have instant access to all of your favorite music and more, but sometimes it's okay to actually support the artists you love for a change. You should give it a try sometime.

So what do you listen to on Halloween? NPR? The fucking Joe Rogan Experience? The sound of your own desperate screams as you realize just how doomed we are as a society? Whatever you've got on your Halloween playlist, feel free to share those recommendations with us in a comment below. We'd love to know what you've got spinning on your haunted turntable this October. You could also send us those playlists in a horrifying email, if that's what floats your boat. CLICK HERE to do that, and we'll be your best friends forever. Or for a few days, at least. TRAPPO is also on Threads, so if you're on Threads and would love to follow TRAPPO on Threads, then CLICK HERE to follow TRAPPO on Threads, and we might just follow you back on Threads, if we ever actually return to Threads. We probably will.

Did you know that there's an official TRAPPO newsletter? it's a relatively new thing for us, and we're still working out some of the kinks, but we'd love for you to join us on this exciting journey. It's called The TRAPPO Town Gazette, and new editions drop each and every Wednesday. The newsletter is free, by the way. There is no optional paid tier, because we're not foolish enough to believe that anybody would ever pay for this crap, so you can subscribe without reservations! CLICK HERE to subscribe to The TRAPPO Town Gazette, and enjoy obscure horror movie reviews and bizarre music recommendations and who knows what else in your inbox every Wednesday.

Thanks for listening, and stay tuned, because our friends at 66.6 KTRP might have a special Halloween treat coming up for you next week.

Stay spooky!

  3. I listen to TRAPPO on Halloween. On repeat.

I’m just kidding. But if I need to clear out my Halloween party tomorrow night I’ll be sure to play an episode of your show. I doubt anybody will stick around longer than ten minutes.
